KUCHING: A helicopter with four people on board crashed into Sungai Lingga rivermouth in Sri Aman division, some 190km from here, on Friday.

The privately-owned Eurocopter EC120 went down at about 9.20am, said Sarawak Commissioner of Police DCP Datuk Acryl Sani.

The German pilot, Rico Steger, 35, managed to get out from the crash and swam for four hours before being rescued by local fishermen and taken to Kampung Tebelu in Sebuyau.

Steger alerted the Department of Civil Aviation at 12.16pm.

A search and rescue team has been despatched to the area to find the three missing passengers believed to be engineers.
