AirAsia to hire 54 more pilots and cabin crews


CLARK, Pampanga –Low-cost carrier (LCC) AirAsia Philippines is set to hire 54 more workers, including 20 pilots and first officers, in preparation for the arrival of two new Airbus A-320 airplanes at the end of the year.

In a phone interview on Thursday, AirAsia Philippines CEO Marianne Hontiveros said the company launched massive campaign to inform prospective cabin crews, pilots and first officers about the hiring of additional personnel.

Hontiveros said the 60-percent Filipino-owned airline currently has 171 workers. She added that 94 of whom are cabin crews, pilots and first officers.

“Our pilots and crews for Airplane 3 are now at the AirAsia Academy in Kuala Lumpur for training. All AirAsia personnel train there to learn, especially the culture and ways of different nations,” said Hontiveros, referring to the third Airbus A-320 which is set to arrive in November.

“We are hiring for the fourth plane which is set to arrive on December,” she added.             
Hontiveros on June 9 led AirAsia Philippine’s inaugural international flight to Kuala Lumpur via the hub in Clark.

She announced on Wednesday that AirAsia will have regular flights from here to Hong Kong and to Macau starting July 19.

To commemorate the twin launch, AirAsia is offering “all-in promo one-way fare” of P688 from Clark to Hong Kong and from P588 from Clark to Macau. Tickets for this promo are available for flights up to January.

“This twin launch provides yet another opportunity for Filipinos to have access to Hong Kong and Macau’s attractions but, more importantly, for families of overseas Filipino workers  in Central and Northern Luzon,” Hontiveros said.
