Airbus, EADS EFW and ST Aerospace finalise agreement for A330P2F conversion programme

• Paving the way for full industrial launch later this year • Expanding Airbus’ freighter portfolio Airbus, ST Aerospace and EADS EFW have finalised the agreement to establish the collaboration for the launch of the A330 Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversion programme. This follows the MoU announced at the Singapore Airshow in February this year setting out the project’s foundation and granting ‘Authorisation To Offer’ for the A330P2F. ST Aerospace lead the A330P2F engineering development work in collaboration with Airbus and EADS EFW, while EADS EFW will lead the industrial phase and undertake marketing and sales activities, supported by Airbus. Most of the conversions will take place at EADS EFW facilities in Dresden, Germany, with the potential for additional capacity at ST Aerospace. “The strong demand from airlines for a programme to convert used A330s from passenger configuration into an attractive freighter is clear,” says Tom Williams, EVP of Programmes at Airbus.

Firefly Received Its First ATR-72-600 Turboprop

Airline operator Firefly has welcomed its first ATR72-600 (9M-FIA), a more eco-friendly and fuel-efficient aircraft, to its existing fleet. The first ATR72-600 was received at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and the airline was expected to receive 20 more deliveries starting this month and for the next six years. The ATR72-600 used significantly less fuel. It had 50% less carbon emissions than other regional jets. The new aircraft also featured the latest innovations with the award-winning Armonia cabin which was designed by world-renowned Italian design house Giugiaro Design, equipped with new slim-line seats with soft leather, larger overhead bins and LED lighting. Firefly is the second ATR-72-600 operator in Malaysia after Malindo Air who had received its first ATR-72-600 on May. Both airlines are operating their respective ATR-72-600 from Subang Skypark.

‘No sign of survivors’ at Sukhoi SuperJet-100 wreck site

Rescuers south of Indonesia’s Jakarta have found several bodies at the mountain site of the wreckage of a Russian Sukhoi SuperJet-100, which dropped off the radar during a demonstration flight on Wednesday. Indonesian officers have been able to access the steep slope by foot and in military helicopters. Due to the remoteness of the site, bodies will need to be placed in nets and hauled up into hovering choppers by rope. Experts say identifying the bodies will take quite some time as they have been fragmented. Earlier the country’s National Search and Rescue Agency confirmed they had found the aircraft wreckage. " Rescuers on the helicopters could clearly see the wreckage located at the top of Mount Salak ," including the blue-and-white of the aircraft maker, says Gagah Prakoso, a spokesman for the Agency.
